After graduating from Saint Benoît French High School in Istanbul, Ömer Yiğit Aykan earned his law degree from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1993 and was admitted to the Istanbul Bar Association in 1994. He holds a Master of Arts degree from Istanbul University Institute of Social Sciences, with a focus on the Legal Structure of the European Union, as well as an LL.M. in International Commercial Law and EU Law from Istanbul Commerce University.

Mr. Aykan has completed several prestigious international training programs, including a professional course on International Intellectual Property Law jointly organized by the Universities of Oxford and Victoria at Saint Peter’s College, Oxford, UK. He also received specialized training in International Commercial Arbitration from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris, France, under the auspices of the ICC Institute of World Business Law. In addition, he successfully completed a post-lauream training program in International Commercial Arbitration—focusing on Private Law, Commercial Law, International Law, and Civil Procedure—delivered by the Department of Legal Sciences at the University of Florence in cooperation with the ICC International Court of Arbitration.

Mr. Aykan began his legal career as a trainee at Aykan Law Firm, a family-run law practice based in Istanbul. Following his admission to the bar, he worked as a visiting attorney at Studio Legale Palmigiano, a reputable law firm in Sicily, Italy. He continued his career at Aykan Law Firm for 10 years, advancing from associate to partner. In 2005, he joined one of Turkey’s most prominent law firms at the time, where he led a litigation team of 30 lawyers and contributed significantly in the areas of commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, foreign investments, tax law, intellectual property law, healthcare law, employment law, and contract law. These areas have remained central to his practice throughout his career. In 2010, he became one of the firm’s four partners—the first to be appointed from outside the founding family.

In 2018, he established Aykan&Co under a forward-looking and innovative law firm model, continuing his commitment to excellence and client-oriented service.
Over the course of his distinguished career as founder, co-founder, managing partner, and senior partner in various law firms, Mr. Aykan has accumulated extensive experience across a wide range of legal disciplines. He has led and successfully closed numereous M&A transactions, both domestic and cross-border. In its 2025 edition, The Legal 500 praised him for his “great knowledge and creativity” in corporate law and mergers and acquisitions. He possesses deep expertise in corporate and commercial law, international contracts, foreign investments, and dispute resolution, including litigation related to commercial transactions, unfair competition, intellectual property, and employment law.
Mr. Aykan continues to advise a diverse portfolio of clients from various industries, including healthcare, technology, media and broadcasting, aviation, and a wide range of Turkish and international industrial and commercial enterprises, as well as startups.
